How is the Customer Requested to Pass the Age Check on Different Listings?
In this article, we will describe how the age check is conducted for Danish shops according to the new Danish legislation that requires alcohol sellers to verify that the user is legally allowed to purchase alcoholic products.
Let's get started!
Legal Part
According to Danish law, the legal age for purchasing alcohol depends on the type of alcohol and the location of the purchase:
- For beverages with an alcohol content of up to 16.5% ABV (such as beer and wine): These can be purchased by individuals aged 16 or older, but only from retail outlets like supermarkets and shops.
- For beverages with an alcohol content above 16.5% ABV (such as spirits): The minimum legal age for purchase is 18, regardless of whether it is bought in a shop, bar, or restaurant.
This means that customers aged 16 can buy lower-strength alcohol in stores, but they must be 18 to purchase stronger drinks or to buy any alcohol in bars and restaurants.
For more detailed legal references, these regulations are part of Denmark's broader alcohol policy to ensure responsible drinking, particularly among youth (NAPR) (VisitDenmark).
Bemakers Webshop Listing
When customers place an order on your webshop, they will encounter an age verification requirement via MitID during the checkout process. They will be notified that they cannot complete the purchase if they do not pass this check.
Once the customer clicks the "Submit and Continue" button in the Information step of the checkout, they will be redirected to Criipto, the service that verifies the customer's age.
If the age check is successful, they will proceed to the shipping step of the checkout and be able to complete the order. Customers who do not pass the check will not be able to place the order.
Customers will be asked to pass the age check every time they make a purchase from the webshop.
Bemakers Shopify Listing
For customers placing orders via Shopify, the process is slightly different.
After completing the checkout, they will receive an email requesting them to pass the age check due to Danish legislation. The email will direct them to a verification form where they can view their order information and click a button to "Pass the Age Check."
After clicking the button, customers will be redirected to Criipto to complete the age verification.
If they pass, the order will be processed and sent to the warehouse for packing and shipping. If they fail to pass the age check, the order will be canceled seven days after the creation date.
Customers who have already passed the age check via email will not need to pass the age check again.
Bemakers Platform
When placing an order for a B2C customer on the Bemakers platform, the system will check if the customer has previously passed the age check. If they have, no further action is required.
If they have not, the order will be paused until the customer completes the age check, and they will receive an email with instructions.
Once the customer passes the age check through Criipto, the order will be processed and sent for fulfillment. Orders will be canceled seven days after creation if the age check is not completed.
Customers who have already passed the age check via email will not need to pass the age check again.
