How to Place and Manage Orders for Future Packaging?
In certain situations, you may need to create an order for a customer that will be packed and shipped in the future. This ensures efficient planning and allows you to reserve stock for the order while keeping the packing team informed about when to prepare it. In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of placing such orders and managing them effectively.
Let's get started!
- See our article on creating an order here: How to create an order?
- If you want to create an order with a future packaging date, on the Summary step of the order flow, scroll down to the bottom of the order form. Here, you can set the future packaging date, indicating when the warehouse should pack and ship the order.
- Review the order details to ensure accuracy, then click on the "Submit" order button to place the order. The stock for the order will be reserved, and its status will change to upcoming.
-
As order is submitted the stock is reserved immediately.
-
As a result, the products included in the order become unavailable for purchase by other customers.
-
Additionally, as order had set packaging date the status of the order changes to "upcoming," indicating that order is scheduled for packaging and shipping in future
Managing Orders with Set Packaging Dates
Now you can check the upcoming orders on the Upcoming tab of the Orders page.
- Go to the Orders page
- Click on the Upcoming tab
- Check the orders that are prepared for packing in future
Changing the Packaging Date for an Order
If the set date for packaging date is wrong you can change it easily. It's described step-by-step here, but you can also refer to the article Making changes to an existing order
- Find the order that you need to update the packaging date for
- Click on the order to access its details.
- Click on the Edit button for the order
- Click on the Summary step of the order flow
- Navigate to the Summary step of the order flow and scroll to the bottom to find the set packaging date.
- Update the date as required or remove it altogether.
- Click on the Submit order button
If you remove the packaging date, the order will become submitted, and the warehouse will be notified to pack it.
If you changed the date, the order will remain upcoming until the new packaging date arrives.
Setting Packaging Date for Already Submitted Orders
it's possible to set a future packaging date for already submitted order as well
Follow the same steps mentioned above to update the packaging date for a submitted order.
As warehouse personnel are already notified about the upcoming order, they may access the picking list email to confirm the order. But within the picking list email, they will immediately notice that the order status is marked as "upcoming." This designation signals that the order is scheduled for future packaging and cannot be confirmed yet.
